Kira Zhigalina is an award-winning artist turned entrepreneur, and a certified breathwork instructor. She is the founder of Sym, a biofeedback device that visualises breathing in light real time, encouraging deep diaphragmatic breathing practice which naturally relieves stress and anxiety.

Kira’s artistic intention lies in creating expanding and emotionally connecting experiences for the audiences which are also aesthetically pleasing, through participation and interactivity. Inspired by a personal experience with breathwork as a teen, this intention manifested in her project Symbiosis, an interactive art installation that visualises breathing in light, using custom developed sensors and software. Since 2015 it has travelled to many light and music festivals and exhibitions and European Burning man events. Seeing the positive calming effect of the experience on the audience and it’s potential to have a wider impact, a compact version of the experience was developed as a unique wellbeing product offering - Sym (www.deepsym.com).

Sym - Breathing Light

The workshop offering is multimodal, in two parts. In the first part there will be a sharing of the artistic journey and inspirations in creating Symbiosis and Sym, allowing space for an open discussion about facilitating collective altered state experiences and potential of biofeedback art. In the second part we will go inwards, explore breath awareness and learn techniques in expanding our diaphragm and explore the benefits of training this muscle. We will close by syncing our breaths across continents, using Sym as a guiding light.
