In this presentation, Petri Berndtson will explore poetry of breathing and air. He calls this kind of poetry respiratory poetry or aerial poetry. The French philosopher Gaston Bachelard has studied the element of air and the experience of breathing as the main sources of inspiration for poetic creation
in some poems written, for example, by Percy Bysshe Shelley, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche, Rainer Maria Rilke and Jules Supervielle. Bachelard understands these poets as great breathers for whom poetry is joy and happiness of breathing. These poets can teach us to transform our ordinary breathing into poetic, creative breath and our terrestrial way of living into an enchanted aerial song of flight.
Welcome to an aerial adventure, with Petri, into the depths and heights of respiratory poetry!
I breathe, I breathe
So deeply that I see myself
Enjoying the paradise
Par excellence, ours.

Petri
Berndtson (PhD) has been described as a thinker who has an immense philosophical imagination. He is a respiratory philosopher, researcher, entrepreneur and wellness coach. Petri is enthusiastic about breathing, embodiment, spirituality, philosophy, experiential wisdom, meditation, creativity, poetry, religion, politics, stand-up comedy, well-being and the wonder-full, immense and multidimensional possibilities of humanity.
Petri is an inspiring lecturer and workshop leader, for example, he was a Keynote Speaker at GIC2024 in Berg en Dal, the Netherlands.
He works as a philosophy researcher at the Science and Research Center
Koper (Slovenia) and taught philosophy for many years at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts (Norway).
Petri's first book Phenomenological Ontology of Breathing: The Respiratory Primacy of Being
(Routledge) was published in 2023. Together with Professor Lenart Škof, Petri coedited the world's first anthology on philosophy of breathing, Atmospheres of Breathing (SUNY Press 2018). He is a doctor of philosophy and his PhD thesis in the field of philosophy (University of Jyväskylä 2018) examined phenomenological ontology of breathing.
You can book appointments at Petri's philosophical practice (philosophical conversation/therapy, teaching thinking skills and philosophical analysis of the world view and Socratic dialogue, as well as meditation guidance and breathwork coaching).
